Natural Oils Africa creates a range of creams, lotions, and milk facial cleansers that are founded on the potent properties of two natural ingredients – cold-pressed Mahogany, commonly known as Mafura butter, and steam-distilled essential oil from the Pepper Bush. These two trees have been used for their medicinal properties for thousands of years by Amazons and Africans. The Natal Mahogany, T. emetica, is native to sub-Saharan Africa, while the Pepper Bush, S. terribinthifolius, was introduced to the Zululand Coastline during the sugar cane planting boom and has since proliferated extensively.
What sets NOA’s products apart from others is the sustainable and ethical way in which these ingredients are harvested. The fruits of both trees are hand-harvested by remote communities, providing them with a source of income that they would not typically have access to. These plants are harvested sustainably, as only fruits are picked from the wild, making them more than organic. The plants have grown “wild” in our coastline forests on the Dolphin Coast, where we harvest them.
NOA’s Mafura butter is different from Shea butter, which requires boiling the seeds and leads to deforestation for firewood. In contrast, Mafura butter is collected from the ground, dried, peeled, and cold-pressed to retain its pure goodness for your skin and hair. When combined with the healing properties of the Pepper Bush, these ingredients create a solid foundation with synergistic properties that make it possible to create a range of products to suit different needs.
NOA’s Crème or Balm can be customized to create a range of different products to meet your needs. Adding an essential oil of your choice can create a beard balm or a calming night cream with lavender.
